Steven Binetter is a seasoned investment professional based in the New York metropolitan area, bringing close to 20 years of experience across both public markets and private investment strategies. Between 2015 and 2025, he built a distinguished career at Marshall Wace, a global long/short equity hedge fund managing around $70 billion in assets. Serving first as a Portfolio Manager and later as a Partner, Binetter played a central role on the firm’s U.S. Management Committee, where he was the only investment team representative. Throughout his tenure, he delivered consistent and scalable investment performance across market cycles.
When Steve Binetter joined Marshall Wace, the firm oversaw approximately $15 billion in assets and maintained a lean U.S. presence of about 25 employees. Shortly after his arrival, he launched the Global Industrials strategy—known internally as the Eureka Fund—which he managed from inception. Beginning with roughly $200 million in gross market value, the strategy expanded to $1.5 billion within a year and later grew to manage between $3 billion and $7 billion from 2017 through 2025. Binetter built and led a seven-person investment team known for its exceptional stability and performance, maintaining minimal turnover over a decade. The strategy maintained approximately 75% exposure to U.S. markets and 25% to international opportunities.
His investment background covers a wide range of sectors, with significant expertise in industrials and business services, alongside experience in technology, media and telecommunications (TMT), consumer, non-bank financials, and life science tools. He also pioneered the development of systematic and quantamental sub-strategies, designed to enhance alpha generation and risk control. In addition, he led quarterly investment committee meetings in New York, ensuring alignment in research, portfolio construction, and risk management across his team.
From 2021 to 2025, Binetter co-managed the MW XO Digital Finance Fund, a private vehicle with about $450 million in assets. He was instrumental in launching and overseeing the fund, directly sourcing, analyzing, and managing more than half of its invested capital. Key portfolio holdings included Circle, Human Interest, Lukka, TRM Labs, and Accelerant. This work underscored his interest in the intersection of finance and technology, particularly within companies building infrastructure, compliance, data, and insurance systems for institutional clients.
Earlier in his career, Steve Binetter worked at Eminence Capital in New York from 2007 to 2015, a $7 billion long/short equity hedge fund. He advanced through the ranks from Research Associate to Analyst, and eventually Portfolio Manager, reporting directly to the firm’s Chief Investment Officer. Managing up to 25 concurrent positions, he was responsible for both idea generation and portfolio construction, developing a reputation for disciplined execution and strong fundamental research. His coverage included industrials, TMT, and consumer sectors, with investment experience spanning Western Europe, South America, and Asia.
Binetter began his professional journey in investment banking at UBS Investment Bank in New York, where he worked in the Mergers and Acquisitions Group from 2005 to 2007. He conducted comprehensive financial analyses and valuation modeling for public and private transactions, supporting management teams in complex merger and acquisition processes.
He earned a Bachelor of Commerce (with Merit) from the University of New South Wales (UNSW), majoring in Finance, and completed over three years of coursework toward a Bachelor of Laws degree. During his studies, he represented UNSW in soccer, contributing to the team’s 2003 Division 2 State League Championship. Binetter also completed academic programs at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania (Mergers & Acquisitions, Negotiations, Corporate Valuation, Advanced Corporate Finance) and NYU Stern School of Business (Real Estate Finance, Investment Banking, Real Estate Asset Management).
A graduate of Sydney Grammar School, Binetter received the Premier of NSW Award for All-Round Excellence in the Higher School Certificate (2002). He also earned Full School Colours for soccer and won the school Eisteddfod in 1997 for his trombone and euphonium performances.
Outside of work, he enjoys time with family, English Premier League football, backgammon, swimming, and private investing. He has long been a resident of the New York area, including Mamaroneck and New York City.
